Christian Birky is Founder of Because Capital, a new strategy and investment firm focused on accelerating the transition to a more resilient, future-ready apparel industry. A lifelong climate activist, Mr. Birky has spent the past decade at the intersection of sustainability and profitability in fashion, with a particular focus on addressing overproduction by integrating local manufacturing into global supply chains. After advising some of the world’s largest apparel manufacturers on business-model innovation, he launched Because Capital to acquire premium menswear brands and put these practices into action. 

Mr. Birky is also Co-founder and board member of the Industrial Sewing and Innovation Center in Detroit and Co-founder of van der weij, a luxury menswear brand he designs with his sister, Kathryn. 

He is a graduate of Princeton University.
