Scott Nova is Executive Director of the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC), a research and advocacy organization dedicated to combating labor rights abuses and advancing the rights of workers in global supply chains.
The WRC conducts factory investigations in more than two dozen countries, issues public reports of labor rights violations, and seeks remedies. The organization has helped workers recover more than $100M in compensation they were legally due, won reinstatement for more than 1,500 fired union leaders, and secured other important gains at hundreds of factories around the world.
The WRC also works strategically to challenge the destructive manner in which global corporations run their supply chains, expose the failure of voluntary “social responsibility” schemes, and promote alternatives that hold corporations accountable and alter the supply chain dynamics that perpetuate abusive conditions.
Prior to joining WRC in 2000, Mr. Nova headed other public interest groups, including Citizens Trade Campaign and Ocean State Action. He began his career in politics, working for Jesse Jackson’s 1988 presidential campaign, for Bernie Sanders in his first run for Congress, and for former Texas Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower.
Mr. Nova has spoken about the intersection of global commerce and labor rights to audiences across the United States and internationally. He has written for The New York Times, The Guardian, Boston Review, and The Nation and has contributed chapters to academic and popular volumes.
He is a graduate of Dartmouth College.
